The application is filed through your county DSS office; however, the qualifications are different than those of typical DSS services. Those who qualify for food assistance may be too young or too old to work, recently laid-off, unemployed or underemployed, disabled, suffering from illness, or suffering from abuse.

​The N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund helps North Carolina homeowners who are struggling to pay their mortgage due to job loss or other temporary financial hardship that occurred on or after January 1, 2008. If your goal is to obtain employment that will allow you to keep your home, this fund can provide temporary assistance to pay your mortgage while you search or train for a new job, all at no cost to you. The N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund offers zero-interest, deferred loans up to $36,000 to cover your mortgage and related expenses for up to 36 months. The loan can also be used to bring your mortgage current.

Tax day comes around every year on April 15th. Thanks to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, you can get your taxes done and filed for FREE at the State Employees Credit Union in Grantsboro if you make less than $53,000/year. This is a federal program, so if you are located outside Pamlico County, it’s likely available at a local bank.
